Kandinksy and audio workshops

Wassily Kandinsky — Yellow-Red-Blue, 1925

For the experimental audio project we had to choose an image to build a soundscape around. One of the images they let us choose from was Kandinsky´s Red Yellow Blue. I chose it because of its colours and complicated patterns. I thought there was a lot of potential with it.
I thought about using its shapes as an indicator of the notes and sounds, like reading it like a sheet of music. Thats why I thought I´d try to convert the image to audio online and This was the result:

Obvisouly its not very pleasent nor is it quite what I´d imagine it to be. I´ll still keep the idea of reading the image, but I´d want something that descibes the mood of the painting (the way I see it). I´m also going to use the colour (its intesity and tone as well as the actual colour) for different sounds. The colours in the background are quite soft and dream like, gong from purple to yellow to blue. Then the shapes are all going to have their own sound, all the angular shapes and lines are going to be sharp stegato and the soft curved shapes and circules will legato.

With our workshops with James we learnt how to use the Zoom and audacity. I used the zoom to record my keyboard while I was looking at the picture.

We also recorded other sounds with Flora for our mini video project. This sort of experimentation has allowed me to be more comfortable with the zoom recorder.
