This video was for another one week experimental video mini project. Our theme this time was digital materiality and honestly I wasn´t very inspired at first. I ended up thinking about themes I had written about in my essay, so I thought I´d play around with the idea that we can create new identities/be completely different people online, than we are in real life. Anne also mentioned using filters and I thought that would work well with my idea, to show how different beautifying filters affect my face. I also thought about how we are all being constantly watched and we are constantly watching others (through social media) (idea of "shareveillance"), hence the eyes and me looking into the camera. The scenes where Laura, Andreea and Alya are lying down was meant to show the people who were watching me and who I was watching. I also used screen grabs of me playing around with sims and making new accounts on Instagram and Facebook, to show how easy this "creating" is. The way I play with the sims reminded me of the idea of us all living in a simulation.
I wanted to use animation from the very beginning and I am happy with the way it turned out, although because it took me so long to decide on what to do, I had to rush everything, and rushing animation is never a good idea. I had some problems in the edit too, and had to redo some stuff because of it. The audion was something I obviously did very last minute. I looked for a piece of music that would go with my video for a long time but I didnt really find anything I loved so I kind of gave up and just slapped something on it. I was editing this till past midnight so. I´m happy at least that I got the project done on time, although I´m not very happy with it otherwise. You can tell it was really rushed and I wish I had a clearer idea of what I wanted from the video.
