Editing

We had our first meeting after finishing filming on the 5.12. All of us met at the library to go through all our footage again. Alya wrote down our favourite shots on the paper again. This in it´s self obviously took some time, as there was a lot to go through since the last time. We also discussed a bit about what we wanted the film to look like and how best to achieve that. Our group decided on a title on that day too, an idea Josh came up with. We decided to call our documentary the Light of Our Lives. A day after this meeting we decided (through Whatsapp) to go with the animation idea. We could use it for the end credits.

On Monday 9.12 was our first proper edit day. (Although Alya had already done a lot at home). We had the computer rooms booked for us so that´s where we went. Alya, Flora and I were the first there and we began transcoding all the files as soon as we arrive, at around eleven. I left before it got to finish (just before the room closed). It took about seven hours for it to complete.
On the first day I was mostly helping around and discussing the edit with Flora and Alya. We all had so many ideas to share and opinions on everything. I also started on the end credits, but then had to leave early for musical theatre  (we were preparing for our shows on Thursday and Friday).

I started animating my sun and moon on premiere. All of it went as planned and there were no big problems. I´m not going to talk so much about the animations here as I have a whole blog dedicated to that. Anyway, on Monday we did the title with Rodrigo.

On the second day of the edit 10.12 I continued with the sun and moon animations and did the bits with the forming. I also got most of the credits done. Alya bought up the permissions sheets where the people we had interviewed wrote their full names, so I could copy them from there. This was another long day. We also pretty much decided not to do the blog. We thought that with the three interviews, there was already enough to carry the film forwards, and that if we added another voice, it might have been really confusing. We thought maybe we could put the poem on the end credits, but Josh didn´t record it in time anyway, so the whole poem idea was scrapped.

The third day Wednesday the 11.12 I missed out almost completely. At thiss point I´m barely eating or sleeping and I´m super worried about not getting everything done on time. Unfortunately almost the whole of Wednesday went to our last rehearsels for musical theatre, which I could not miss. I did run in to meet Alya in the morning to get all the end credit and animations files onto my hardrive so that I could work on it in the evening. My priority though was to get all the animations done which I did late into the night (the taxi and the bird animations were all done that night).

The fourth and the last day of editing was on the 12.12. I was so happy, because I managed to do everything quite quickly. I finished writing up the names and despite some difficulties, I got all the animations done too. When I exported the end credits movie file, I was literally jumping and laughing from happiness. It was the last thing I had to do for the documentray (apart from the blogs). I think everyone else stayed editing until later that evening, but everything was finished in time. I was so happy we had done it all. That night I had my first show for musical theatre :).
