A birthday suprise development

I
had a quick look at banners and found lots of sites that do custom ones. I’m
having a bit of trouble finding ones that make the colours as Julia wants them (Red
white and blue), but I haven’t looked too much into it yet. I did find this
funny site that makes really bad looking banner’s and they happen to have RAF

We also now have a new AD Jess. I will have a meeting with her to discuss where art department is at with everything.

Meeting with Claud:
We made a sort of action plan with Claud, to decide who should be responsible for what. We decided that I should order the birthday banner, which has to be personalised. The other more complicated things are getting the family photos (but that will have to be done later once we have our actors) and Kevs business cards (we remember somebody said they wanted to do it, but we can´t remember who it was). The rest of the stuff is simple and we decided that we would go to Poundland next week to see what we can get. Claud is in charge of the china plate.
We went to Poundland to see what they have for birthday decorations. They have probably everything we'll need and it's all just for one pound, so that's good.
24.1 We were meant to go out to locations, but Julia´s roommate has covid so she might have it too- the visits will be pushed back.
FEBRUARY
There was a location viewing finally on the 16.2 but I couldn't make it. Claud went though. Julia also sent me a bunch of photos and videos to get an idea of it. It looks really great. We also decided that the location wouldn´t be the grandparents house, but it will be Lynn´s. She´s a chic mum so the house can stay more as it is. The grandparents house would´ve needed a lot more decorating.
18.2 I sent Julia messages and photos about the banners. I sent her the
one I linked before with the really badly photoshopped RAF themes and one I
found on Etsy. The etsy one do banners in different colours, so I’ll just order them separately
in the three colours we want. Etsy Banner Link I sent her the birthday face banner as well. She
seemed to like all of them. I wasn’t sure if she would like the face one but
maybe we’ll order it then. Face Banner
I also started designing Kev´s soundcloud rapper business cards on indesign.I´m not sure what Julia was looking for though so I looked into some business card designs and tried looking for inspirations. I think it should look obviously really cheap but it should also match Kev’s personality. I can’t imagine him using lots of different colours, or primary colours (which are our main theme for this film), so I’m not sure how to do it. I’ll make sure to ask Julia.

Julia said they might be going in a different direction with the
business cards. Maybe just have him scribble down his soundcloud details on a
napkin
Julia also sent us a to do list.
MARCH
7.3 MON
Our location viewing
got cancelled again because the owners still have Covid. They might have to
cancel completely so Julia is quickly looking for new places. I hope we can
find something new soon.
I ordered the etsy birthday
banner today. I took glittery because the shiny once could’ve been a problem
with reflecting. I’m excited to see it when it arrives sometime next week.

That afternoon we had
an art department meeting with Julia. My notes:
I think the most important things we agreed on were:
-We hadn’t really thought about the poop in
the toilet. Should we get several fake poops? If not it’s not the end of the world
if we don’t show in the toilet. Might be better for a film to just suggest it instead of showing it
-grandpa’s gift to
Charlie doesn’t have to be a medal. Could be something random. Maybe an inside
joke between grandpa and Charlie
-We should keep an
eye out for French décor things. Lynn is French so make it homely for her

| We had to move the bike away. I was also thinking that this was the only empty wall we could use for the birthday banner. I think we will put it where there is the skylight. |
I think it was Victoria who made this floor plan. It could be really useful to us for the set design.We got up early to do the set dressing before the actors arrived. When we were packing up, we realised we needed bowls for the snacks. I just took my white one and a silver one. The silver one is too reflective though, so we can’t use that for the actual shoot. We don´t want it reflecting the camera or lights at any point. We tried on the red tablecloth which turned out to be, unfortunately, too small for the table so we might buy a second one for the actual shoot. I didn´t like the way it looked with table pocking out the sides. We also didn´t buy enough snacks. The table and bowls looked half empty. We´ll need to get more for the real shoot. We also completely forgot the squash in a jug. We need to get that next time. I hope it didn´t look to bad in the photos. Julia just seemed happy at least, but I think we can make it even better on the day.
