Finishing the Experimental Media

Filming the bathroom scene, with all my equipment. You can tell I was tired :)

There were still a couple of things left for us to do. One of the bigger things left to do was some filming. We wanted to replace the swimming scene that we couldn´t do anymore with just a sink/hand washing scene. We also wanted the sleeping scene that we were going to film in my room in Farnham, but it didn´t make much difference. I used my tripod for both the clips and my dslr.
The handwashing took a couple of tries, as I wanted to have my hand in the frame the whole time. Because I had to turn it around and move it, I kept going a little bit out of frame. I decided to have a frame where you can see my face to make it clear that it was going to be my hand exploding. I also had a frame where you can see the sink and tap more clearly and then the last one that is closer to my hand, to make it easier for me to rotoscope and Flora to edit.
For the sleeping scenes I set up my tripod again. I wasn´t sure about the lighting, because I wanted it to look like nightime but it also couln´t be so dark that you couldn´t see anything. I left my window a little bit open.  We wanted to show a charging thing and for this we were going to use my phone, so put my phone on charge and sleep on top of it. (plug in like I am Here) When I was filming it though I realised it would look better if I charged my Apple Watch, as it looked more like I was also charging myself. I thought it looked a bit like an IV drip, like it was my life line. It was hard to tell if the video was focused or not so here I was trying to figure out if it was okay:

Next I sent the clip I wanted for the hand rotoscoping and started to draw over it. This time we were going to leave the baclground, so I had to be careful to completely cover my hand. I was afraid you would be able to see it underneath my drawings but you couldn´t. So I was happy with the results. Again it ended up being around eighty frames. I also love the explosion edit Flora made for it.

The finished hand animation.

I also filmed a scene where I wake up and from a first person point of view, you see my laptop. We decided not to use it though.
I filmed myself googling am I human whilst holding my dslr in my hand so it was a bit unsteady (Flora stablized it in edit). The last thing I filmed using my webcam.

some technical difficulties

I had some problems occasionally with my laptop. I think I tried to do too many things at the same time. It ended up crashing a couple of times. Once it zoomed in and I couldn´t get it back to normal for a while. Also when doing the credit animation (the plug) the separate frames were in random order and when dragged onto the timeline they were too small and so where in the wrong places, and going over the text.
I had to look very closely at the images and pull one frame at a time onto the premiere project. It took me along time to eventually get them all in the right order. Then because they were all too small I decided to save them as a separate video (which is something I didn´t want to do originally, because I wanted to have transparent backgorunds so it wouldn´t block the text. I realised though that if instead of putting the animation on top of the text, I put it under it didn´t matter wether the background was transparent or not). So I exported it as a video (with a black backgound, put it underneath the text and the made then zoomed in the video file. Finally that part was ready

they were not in order

Here I was still planning what it would look like. I first drew the keyframes

The plug animation was too small so the whole thing had to be resized

The exported plug animation

I had less difficulty with the eye animation, as I knew it would be small and to the side, so I could have a black baground (and so I exported the animation straight on my iPad). Then I sent the video file to my laptop and moved it around until I like the way it looked.

Here is the finished credits.
