R.E.M ZZZ
TWO WEEK EXPERIMENTAL VIDEO PROJECT

Our brief was to create a short experimental video, playing around with the concept of time. We knew we wanted to use a lot of slo mo and fastforward although our original ideas kept changing. We thought about freezing frames or only using very short clips. We also thought about possibly using animation or filming more food. Laura had the idea of using eyes and from there we developed it into the idea that all that is happening is happening inside the persons head, like a dream. When we filmed the eye scenes we decided I should close them and move them around to create a REM effect. There are also bits where my eyes are open to show that its me watching all the action.
We were inspired by the video Requiem for a Dream Montage because of its way of editing and by The Happy Title film for the fun vibe and reversing videos.
My favourite scenes are probably the ones Flora and I filmed from the highest floor of the student accomodation, where Flora dances around in the grass and I lay in it. There is this weird disconnected feeling and its super dreamy. I´m also proud of all the bits that match the music, because I spent so long editing them. I also colour corrected a lot of the videos, mostly to make them a bit brighter.
Overall I am very happy with how it turned out. I think that there is a clear sort of story, whilst still being very experimental. I liked playing around with the different speed and reversing the videos, because it is something I´ve never really done before. I also like the aesthetic we created, with it being so fun and colourful. I´m looking forward to doing more of these short projects in the future.
