INITIAL IDEAS

How to make it creative?

Looking at the videos, there doesn't seem to be a narrative. Should I give it a narrative? I think that would be more challenging then to just make something that looks cool. What kind of story? Something funny? Or horror? Are we allowed to use our own sounds? Make our own soundtrack? As long as I dont spend too long on that it could be fun. The horror idea would also give me space to use crazy edits, could make like a upside down type vibe to it with colouring and effects etc.

(I know now that yes, we are allowed to create our own soundtrack and be as creative as we want with the footage. I guess it would be cool to include as many different edits and effects as possible to show that I have really understood media composer.)

What I want to include (I will add to this as I go along on the media composer books):

Colour correction presets

title presets; Title and credits?

Fade effects

A freeze frame maybe?

Audio and audio effects

At the moment I am focusing on the exam we will have on Friday on the first book. I´m revising and feeling more confident in Media composer. I finished the Linkedin learning 101 and the book. I´ve been playing games and reading flashcards on:

https://www.cram.com/flashcards/games/avid-media-composer-101-cert-practice-6127778

So the exam is my main focus, not the project although I have been thinking about it since I first wrote on this post. At the moment though, I cant even open the program, it´s completely frozen. I hope I will be able to fix it soon. I cant edit so instead I´ve only been thinking about the concept. I´ve decided to do the horror movie edit. I think that gives me lots of scope to use different edits, but it also has a clear theme and mood to aim for. I have watched a lot of Editing is everything on youtube and so that is my main inspiration for now.

For example here is a video they made of Rapunzel, in 7 different genres  youtuberapunzel, The horror movie trailer starts at 7:10 if you want to skip to just that. I think its really impressive how effective the edit is. Rapunzel is obviously a fun film made for children, and still it is so (seemigly) easy to transform it. This is the kind of thing I want to try to make with the kung fu footage we have been given.

Here is a couple of more examples of Editing is everything horror trailers:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GHd9KjqlrM High school musical as a horror movie, starts at 3:26

Audio is really important for a horror edit, so I`m going to have to spend some time looking for the perfect sounds.

I decided to search "Horror Kung Fu" not thinking I would find anything. I was wrong, as apparently there are many movies that fit this category. I watched this video to get an overview of on 11 horror kung fu movies:

I was suprised at this and thought that this combo is quite funny. Some of them are mixed with comedy, but some of them are pure horror and kung fu. I could look into some of these movies, to find inspiration for my short project.

It is true though, that horror can be mixed with pretty much any other genre of film. This is encouraging, as I should be able to create something scary with even the footage I have.

I will look more into how horror trailers are built but for now here is a funny clip this reminded me of called How to make a blockbuster movie trailerhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAOdjqyG37A
